Fruit and vegetable exports have many prospects in the second quarter
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports in April reached 391 million USD, up 22% compared to April 2022. Generally, in the first four months of the year, the export of vegetables and fruits reached 1.4 billion USD, up 18% over the same period in 2022.
With a growth rate of 17.6% in the first 4 months of this year, vegetables and fruits have become a bright spot in the country's export activities. In particular, the sharp increase in the export of vegetables and fruits to the Chinese market has boosted this industry's positive growth. The potential for exporting fruit and vegetables to China is still very large because of the high market demand.
However, the Import-Export Department said that China is no longer an easy market like many years ago, the consumption trend has been towards product quality and design, and there is competition with fruits from countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia…
Therefore, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable enterprises must continue to improve their quality in purchasing, checking residues of chemicals and pesticides, processing and preserving products, and meeting requirements of the partner.
In addition to the Chinese market, the export of vegetables and fruits to some other markets also grew positively such as South Korea reaching 66 million USD, up 9%; Japan reached 54 million USD, up 8%...
Especially, the export of vegetables and fruits to the Dutch market reached 45.5 million USD, up to 72% compared to the same period in 2022. The Import-Export Department said that the Netherlands is considered the "gateway" of the EU when one-third of the time. The volume of imported goods will pass through this country, this is also an important connection point between ports and industrial zones of the EU and the world.
Vietnam and the EU have signed a free trade agreement, according to which, about 94% of the total 547 tariff lines for fresh and processed vegetables and fruits are reduced to 0% by the EU. Thus, Vietnamese goods entering the Netherlands will be more competitive with competitors.
However, in 2023, the EU focused on revising many of the regulations on the maximum amount of MRLs. The Import-Export Department recommends that Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exporters to the Netherlands and EU markets need to regularly monitor, promptly inspect, supervise and adjust their goods to comply with regulations.
